My username is Anon_Supreme087. I’m more commonly known in this server by the name “M_V”

First, I owe a sincere apology to the staff & players of DeadMC. The trouble I stirred up, albeit unintentionally, was unacceptable and made the experience of this server significantly less enjoyable for all parties. I apologize, and take full accountability for my actions. 

Second, I wish to clear some things up. I am an active duty United States Marine. I have been active duty for four years, with four more to go. I serve my country daily, and have made great sacrifices in its name. The U.S. Marine Corps’ core values are “Honor, Courage, Commitment.” I demonstrate these values daily. My actions in this server during my last active period were not reflective of the Marine Corps’ core values, or the values of a man of basic moral standing. I was issued a permanent ban for the use of so-called “Nazi-imagery” in my base. Mainly, the use of banners that resembled an Iron Cross, and a pond that vaguely resembled the shape of a swastika. While I am a Buddhist, and am fully aware that the swastika’s significance long predates the German symbol of WW2, I have recently educated myself on the harmful effects of recreating, displaying, and restoring images now associated with the German atrocities committed during WW2. These symbols, while not intended to represent their hateful rhetoric, are forever changed because of the impact they had on the entire world. To a certain degree, intention no longer matters when displaying these symbols, due to the lives lost under the banners displaying such disgusting symbols. As a historian, I should have known better at the time. To put it simply, I was uneducated, and will be glad to remove any symbols that could be seen as a symbol of hate, regardless of intention. Furthermore, there were also signs that read “Schwarzesonne” on them, which translates to “Black Sun” in German, and is unquestionably a hateful, disgusting reference to members of Adolf Hitler’s Germany. I did not know this at the time, and have since educated myself further on both the history of German murder of minorities and how harmful, demeaning, and unnecessary such things are in our current society. 

Third, I have read some of the messages written about me in the Discord channel. It hurts my heart to read lies and hateful comments spoken about me, and I can only hope that those hurt by what I have done will accept my apology. 

Finally, I wish to reassure you, the reader. This server is some of my only solace in a life where the Marine Corps dominates most of my time. I understand a break was needed, and have had ample time to reflect on my actions and understand why they were wrong. I can promise with absolute certainty, that my statement today contains nothing but the truth, and that should you make the decision to repeal my ban, you will not have another problem out of me. 

In summary, I am sorry. I hope you all can forgive me.

It absolutely was my first time being banned for anything even remotely related to this ban.

First and foremost; it is a public forum and everyone is free to respond. Although we do ask that users adhere to the general rules, I don't see any rule breaks in the posts as they are currently. Thanks River, however, for being attentive. But unless users are truly interfering with the appeal process or breaking rules, people are welcome to respond.

It's especially logical more people respond when subjects are so sensitive as this one is. These themes, these hate-groups, are a tender subject for quite some people and the want to respond is understandable.

It's been a while since we had an appeal from you, MV. With most of your appeals, we generally kept it brief as it was obvious time and time again that you had no intention of being well-faithed or honest. So I will take my time to be a bit more broad right now. I have to say, I agree with a lot of what Adroitwheat says.

How curious, that as a buddhist, you were unaware of the negative connotations this sign has unfortunately acrued.

How curious, that as a historian, you built not only one nazi symbol, but multiple, even obscure, nazi symbols.

What a coincidence it must've been that you, a historian, recognized none of them, but somehow kept accidentally building these images!

You claim that your usage of the "Schwarze Sonne" is accidental, but you never really explain how you even got to that specific term. Is your lack of clarification because any internet search of the words will immediately point out it was mainly used by both nazis then and is actively used by neo-nazis now? Or are you suddenly an astronomer now, who purely coincidentally acquired an interest for German translations of rare cosmological phenomena?

Your claim that your time as a US Marine Corps makes it extremely unlikely for you to even think of these types of ideologies is also not as strong as you think.

That might be a bit of a dry read and you might think that it might not apply to you. You're a marine after all, not national security!

So yeah, you can keep rattling off the whole 'honor, courage, commitment'-quote, but I think you know as well as I do that all that glitters isn't gold. Those who keep repeating those values can have a tendency to have a bit more honor for one and not for the others, I think you know what I mean.

But I'll let Vice explore that more. It's an interesting article. You should definitely read it. I wonder if the people mentioned in the article also accidentally kept building nazi imagery in a Minecraft server.

There's currently two options:

1. Either you truly didn't know what the symbols meant and that would make you the world's worst historian, which a problem in and of itself. I don't think you would call yourself a historian if you truly knew so little about the most recent world war.

2. Or you did know what it all meant, and you keep overestimating your abilities to tell a convincing lie.

I think it's option 2.

As you might be able to deduce (but I'll be clear, just in case option 1 applies) the appeal is denied. It stays denied and it will be denied in the future.

Not only is your love for nazi symbolism something that does not and never will have a place on the server, you have again and again wasted our time with lies that are so obvious even a mole might think it's a little too easy to see through them.

Maybe take a deradicalisation course. Your desire to build nazi imagery and play meek after is troubling. We know what dog whistles are in this day and age. We're not playing the sheepish 'I didn't know these five nazi symbols were five nazi symbols!!' with you. We know it's untrue, we know you're lying.

You could read 'Breaking Hate: Confronting the New Culture of Extremism', it's a book to counter radicalisation. It might help you.

And let it be clear, as also said above, this server will always fight against all forms of hate-speech to stand for a community built on equality, compassion and empathy.

The ban will stay in place. Stop making appeals.
